Google Play Console requires the following per listing in 2026: at least 2 phone screenshots and an app icon (512 × 512 32-bit PNG with alpha). Tablet screenshots become required only if you target tablet form factors. To be eligible for Play Store featuring, you should also ship 7-inch and 10-inch tablet screenshots even if your app technically runs on phones only — this is one of the easiest 'featuring' levers indie teams overlook.
Play Console's listing engine is more aggressive than App Store Connect about cropping and downsampling. On phones, the first two screenshots appear above the fold; the rest live behind a horizontal scroll. On tablets, the listing shifts to the tablet screenshot set if available, otherwise it pads phone screenshots — usually unflatteringly. The takeaway: your first two screenshots have to do all the conversion work, and your tablet set should not be an afterthought.
Wear OS, Android TV and Android Auto each require their own screenshot set. Wear OS uses 384 × 384 (round) and 360 × 360 (square). Android TV uses 1280 × 720 with the optional 1280 × 720 TV banner. Android Auto uses 1280 × 720 in landscape. AppScreenStudio supports phone and tablet today; Wear and TV templates are on the roadmap.
